Projects & Initiatives

Transnational Cultural Education Projects

I have led and collaborated on several transnational initiatives that bridge cultural education, artistic exchange, and community engagement. In Xalapa, I organized the Encuentro de Sabores y Saberes de la Huasteca, a multidisciplinary gathering that brought together scholars, musicians, community leaders, and an international cohort of students to explore the intersections of language, environment, history, music, foodways, and knowledge traditions in the region. In the realm of international performance and pedagogy, I have worked to represent global artists such as Quinteto Astor Piazzolla, Margareth Menezes, Grupo Estanzuela, Los Utrera, Conjunto Sotavento, and Trío Los Hidalguenses, among others, opening the possibility for educational residencies and institutional partnerships that expanded their reach to new audiences in the U.S. These projects created spaces for intercultural dialogue, emphasizing the ways in which vernacular music practices circulate across borders while remaining deeply rooted in local histories.

Oral History, Project Training, and Audiovisual Production

My work in oral history and audiovisual production centers on training emerging documentarians and community researchers. As a producer and mentor for the Texas Folklife Community Folklife Fellowship, I guided participants through the process of ethnographic storytelling, podcast production, and public humanities work, helping them shape narratives that reflect their own communities. Similarly, I co-produced an Oral History Documentary for the Alliance of Pan American Roundtables, where I assisted in interview design, archival research, and digital editing to document the organization’s transnational impact. These projects highlight the importance of equipping non-specialists with tools for cultural documentation, ensuring that stories of tradition, migration, and identity are preserved and told by those most closely connected to them.
